Scientists have revived a 48,500-year-old zombie virus that had been trapped deep within the Siberian permafrost. The preprint study revealed that 13 never-before-seen viruses had been laying dormant within the ice for tens of thousands of years and are now being brought back.

Scientists have long warned that the thawing of permafrost due to atmospheric warming will worsen climate change by freeing previously trapped greenhouse gases like methane. Along with the zombie virus, scientists have also discovered Siberian Wolf intestine and mammoth wool beneath the permafrost.
