- Team RadioCity
Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra have surely raked up a storm with their super-sizzling chemistry and killer dance moves in their upcoming release, 'Baar Baar Dekho'. As the movie hits theatres, Team Radio City catches up with the gorgeous duo to know more about the film. With the movie having released, how excited are you considering that the film has received tremendous buzz?Katrina: We are very happy with the way the buzz has picked up. 'Kala Chashma' has become the song of the moment. We are loving the different dance videos that are coming up on social media everyday, including a Gujrati version I saw today.Sidharth: There was a video on Facebook, we saw today where a die-hard fan of Katrina compiled a video this way. So the video goes, 'What you saw' is where the two of us are dancing to 'Kala Chashma' followed by 'What we saw' which has myself blurred out and only Kat put in focus. laughsIt was actually going to be our next question. Though both of you have danced so well and are looking so beautiful, somehow the entire focus is on Katrina. How does that feel?Sidharth: Katrina and her stomach. There are actually three stars in the film. I cannot compete with two.Katrina: Actually, Sid was supposed to wear a vest and go topless for the song. But then, I went and requested him to cover up because had he gone ahead, no one would've looked at me. So in a way, he obliged and allowed me to have my moment. So in a small way, we all owe a lot to Sid. He's made the sacrifice in the song. Now the story is about a couple who've been together since childhood and the boy develops cold feet, a few nights before marriage. Then, we see that he goes for his honeymoon and starts a family and so on while he doesn't realise that time is slipping by. There is enough confusion around. So is the movie as confusing and twisted at it seems?Sidharth: The movie is not as confusing as it seems. Infact, it's a simple story but the journey isn't. It's a story about the guy who is trying to figure out how his life and love story are going to play. Because when he sleeps he doesn't know when and where he will wake up at, the next morning. So, the movie deals with a very unique concept. It has not been inspired from Hollywood. The concept has been explored for the first time in mainstream Indian cinema though. It has a novel message for everyone especially the youth on how one must make the choice between love and career. How one often overlooks his family life for professional pursuits. So that's the message that 'Baar Baar Dekho' is looking to drive tothe audience.Katrina, this is the first time that a full-fledged love story is being helmed by a woman. How was the experience of working with Nitya Mehra, as a woman?Katrina: Well, Nitya is the third female director that I'm working with after Farah Khan in 'Tees Maar Khan' and Zoya Akhtar in 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara'. I've had the best working relationships with the three women. With Farah, whatever you need to about dance, you will learn from her. With Zoya, I would feel liberated on the sets. With Nitya, the equation was very smooth. We agreed on a lot of things and we had a connect from the very first instance. Also, I've noticed that when you are working with a woman as a director, they will not give you parts where you have to only sing and dance, and you're done. A woman director will offer you a substantial role to perform with.Sid, usually actresses tend to experiment a lot with their looks. In this film, you're shown to be experimenting with your looks. You've been shown sporting the salt and pepper look suggesting aging in the movie. What was the experience of that like?Sidharth: We had a great team of make-up artists behind that look. I was given prosthetics, with the beard and cheeks. The character is shown to be forty six in the movie. I was sceptical though about how the audience will find it but surprisingly, I've received some very generous messages saying that people have liked the look.Katrina, you are also seen sporting many different looks in the film?Katrina: We did all our tests together for prosthetics. Our prosthetics artists are an Oscar-winning team. So like his character Jai, even Diya which is the character I am playing undergoes several changes in the film. We spent four-five days on each look. Because we have to show the journey of two people from the age of sixteen to forty six. So the need was to keep the characters as real and believable as it can be.Your character is shown to be as someone who is very naughty and fearless. Is that true?Katrina: She is, but she is also responding very strongly to different emotions at different phases. There is a very strong emotional connect that Diya feels which I hope all women feel when they watch the film.So Sid, if you ever decided to take the plunge and get married, how would you like it? A destination wedding, a private one with only few people or a big, fat Punjabi wedding?Sidharth: Obviously a big, fat Punjabi wedding. My family will kill me if I don't invite everyone in the family for my wedding. In Delhi alone, my family comprises of fifty to sixty members, so I'll have to invite all of them. What about you Katrina?Katrina: I just want a happy wedding with lots of dancing. We'll understand if you do not reveal about it but does this movie involve anything related to time travel? Is there a dream sequence or magic being played out here?Sidharth: There is no technology or anything involved. It is only a situation of what if you could see the future.Lastly, why should the audience 'Baar Baar Dekho' the movie?Sidharth: It is a very interesting narrative for Indian audiences. It is not your typical run off the mill love story.Katrina: The film will excite you. If not the trailer, the film and the music will entertain you.
