Lulla said, 'When we were discussing her wedding outfit, she was dressed in her Jodhaa wedding outfit. I remember her saying, I'm not dressing like this for my wedding. I want to dress in Kanjeevaram, so you have to figure out what has to be done for that. Speak to my mother, and you guys do your recce as to where you want to get it woven and what you want to do.'
The designer further mentioned how particular Aishwarya was regarding her bridal-look outfit. While dressed elaborately as Jodhaa, it was clear she did not want something similar. Instead, the actress insisted on sticking to her Tullu roots and opting for a Kanjeevaram saree.
Opening up about more details on her bridal saree and blouse, Neeta added, 'Because she's a South Indian, she's a Tulu, she wanted that culture too. Her cultural upbringing, her cultural values, and everything to exude in her look and her style statement, and that's exactly what we did. We got the saree especially woven for her, and the blouse was also a very basic 5-inch sleeve blouse like a lot of South Indians wear.'
Aishwarya Rai's bridal outfit cost
Apart from the flawless arrangements made for Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan's wedding, it was the actress's bridal outfit that caught several eyeballs. Back in the day, Bollywood brides were not big on pastel outfits. 'You do your math. I mean, a Kanjivaram saree - how much would it cost? It can't cost like a crore or Rs 75 lakhs, can it? A basic blouse with a well-cut, well-fitted embroidered zardozi blouse and jewelry - I mean, are you counting the whole thing with the jewelry? I don't know where the math is,' the Bollwyood designer further added.
Her golden-hued Kanjeevaram saree had embroidery of real gold done on it. It was even heavily loaded with intricate and exorbitant crystals. Abhishek complemented his wife in a white sherwani, which also had hues of real gold on it.
