Anurag Kashyap, a renowned Bollywood filmmaker, recently shed light on the reasons behind some big-budget films failing to impress audiences. In a candid interview, Kashyap pointed out that a significant portion of a film's budget isn't directed towards the actual filmmaking process but rather towards fulfilling the extravagant demands of actors and their entourages.

Focus on Entourage Over Filmmaking

Kashyap discussed several big-budget films that underperformed at the box office. He stated that the spending goes beyond the film itself. People need to understand that filmmaking is work it's about creating something. It's not a leisure trip.

He emphasises that a substantial amount of money gets allocated towards unnecessary things, like extensive support staff and luxurious amenities for actors. Kashyap even shared an example where filming is happening in a remote location and a car is sent specifically to fetch a five-star burger from a city three hours away.

Kashyap highlighted the rising issue of excessive spending on actor-related expenses instead of prioritising the core aspects of filmmaking. He mentioned his experience on the sets of the web series Sacred Games, where he witnessed an abundance of vanity vans. He expressed that it's difficult to change such trends.

Kashyap shared his opinion that while it's fair that the technical crew, who were previously overlooked, are finally receiving their due recognition, this has also led to an influx of unnecessary extras. Kashyap reiterated the importance of allocating resources towards the creative aspects of filmmaking instead of focusing on luxuries.
