The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has made a transnational move as it launches Chandrayaan 3 today. For the uninitiated, Chandrayaan is the third lunar exploration mission by ISRO. It is expected that the satellite will land on the south pole of the moon after a 6-week journey. Ahead of the much-awaited mission, we have a list of Indian movies that will give you a sneak peek into what space looks like.

Everybody loves a good sci-fi movie, especially if it gives an insight into space and the universe. Bollywood, slowly but surely, is exploring more such plots around astronomical movies.
We have seen some terrific shows and movies, like Rocket Boys, revolving around the lives of Dr. Vikram A. Sarabhai and Dr. Homi J. Bhabha, who changed the scenario for space research in India. As ISRO launches Chandrayaan 2 today, let's take you through more brilliant astronomical movies that you must watch.

1. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (2022)

This movie marked R. Madhavan's directorial debut. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect took the world by storm as it saw a pan-Indian release in multiple languages. The movie is based on the real-life story of Nambi Narayanan, an Indian aerospace engineer who changed the landscape for Indian space research. His terrific progress in the field did not come on a silver platter.

While conveying and sticking to his principles and ideologies, Nambi Narayanan made several enemies. However, this doesn't stop him from bringing in the right change. R. Madhavan is seen playing Narayanan. The movie highlights the life of the aerospace engineer and everyone who unconditionally supported him.

2. Misison Mangal (2019)

Director Jagan Shakti put together a spectacular star cast to showcase one of the biggest missions of the Indian Space Research Organization. Mission Mangal revolves around a group of scientists and aerospace engineers who come together to make the Mars Orbiter Mission a reality.

Mission Mangal starred Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, Sonakshi Sinha, and Nithya Menon in prominent roles.

3. Antariksham, 9000 KMPH (2018)

A Telugu film that brought Varun Tej and Aditi Rao Hydari together revolves around how a defective satellite could create a worldwide communication blackout. Dev (Tej) plays a retired astronaut who is approached to fix the defective satellite. However, when Dev deep dives into the situation, he realizes there are more monstrous challenges than anticipated.

4. Swades (2004)

The Shah Rukh Khan starrer was an eye-opener for every 90's kid on how and why Indian scientists are one of the country's most important resources. This story is about Mohan (SRK), an Indian expatriate who works at NASA and lives his dream life. But suddenly, it dawns on him that he misses his old nanny, Kaveri Amma.

He travels back to India in search of Kaveri Amma with the intention of bringing her to the USA. In his quest to convince Amma to live a lavish life in America, Mohan falls in love with his roots as he faces the harsh reality of the rural parts of the country.

Swades marked one of Shah Rukh Khan's finest performances. But did you know the actor hasn't seen the movie yet?

5. Koi...Mil Gaya (2003)

The Hrithik Roshan-Preity Zinta starrer holds a special place in our hearts. Koi...Mil Gaya was probably one of the first Bollywood movies that introduced us to aliens. The movie revolves around how Rohit (Hrithik), a mentally disabled boy, finds his father's scientific equipment that can make direct connections with beings from another planet.

As he fools around with that equipment, he makes unintended connections with the aliens, whose spaceship lands in his village. When the spaceship soon leaves, it leaves behind one alien, whom Rohit finds and names Jaadu. The alien befriends Rohit and his friends as they go out of their way to reunite Jaadu with his fellow aliens.

A wholesome watch, you have to see this movie on Indian Space. Koi... Mil Gaya also stars Rekha, Rajesh Roshan, and Johnny Lever, among others.
