February is the month to see some spectacular releases, including regional blockbusters. Speaking of the same, Rajinikanth starrer Lal Salaam releases today, February 9. It is directed by his daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth.

Lal Salaam is a sports drama that revolves around communal tension and cricket. It gives out a message of communal harmony through the game. The movie also marks Aishwarya Rajinikanth's comeback as a director.

As the much-anticipated film sees a theatrical release today, Dhanush gave a shoutout to his ex-wife and the entire team for the same. Taking it to X (formerly known as Twitter), the actor tweeted, "Lal Salaam from today."

This isn't the first time Dhanush has promoted the film on social media. Earlier on February 5, he tweeted, "Best wishes to the team. God bless. #superstar #thalaivar (sic)."

Dhanush and Aishwarya Rajinikanth's love story

The two South superstars were childhood sweethearts who tied the knot in 2004 after dating for a couple of years. They share two sons, Yatra and Lingaa.

In January 2022, Dhanush and Aishwarya decided to call it quits and formally announced their separation. The reason for their separation was to give each other enough space and give their individual happiness priority. Having said that, they continue to co-parent their son.

A close friend of the formal couple revealed the real reason and said, "Their kids will always be their priority, and they plan to co-parent them going forward. There is no animosity or hatred toward each other. If not immediately, you might see them together in the public space and at events in the near future."

Rumors of them reconciling and calling off their divorce were doing the rounds last year. However, both Dhanush and Aishwarya are firm on their decision but won't file for an official divorce.

A source close to the development said, "The buzz that they are trying to reconcile is wrong. They aren't. When it comes to divorce, they have not filed it yet, so they are separated. There is no filing in court. They won't even file for divorce until and unless one of them wants to get married again, which is not the case at the moment."

"They don't live together, but they respect each other and share a cordial bond with their kids. They are busy raising their kids and finding ways to co-parent. They are taking turns to keep their kids so that they don't feel a void in their lives,' the source concluded.

In an interview, Aishwarya opened up about her experience directing her father. She said, "Directing Appa (my father) was something I never expected in my life to start with it was a blessing. Every single day of working with him was a mini-masterclassmdashhow he handles himself on set and, as a professional, as an artist in the industry."
