We woke up to shocking and sad news as we learned about Kenneth Mitchell's passing away. The Captain Marvel actor dies at 49 after suffering from a prolonged battle with motor neuron disease. He had been undergoing treatment for ALS for over five years.
The Canadian actor's family issued a statement and expressed how he lived a life filled with joy and grace. Kenneth Mitchell starred in several popular Hollywood movies, including Star Trek: Discovery, Captain Marvel, Jericho, and Home of the Giants, among others.
Mitchell played three Klingon characters in Star Trek: Discovery. In the first season, he portrayed the characters Kol, Kol Sha, and Tenavik in Season 2. As his disease progressed, Season 3 saw him as Aurellio, a character who was in need of a wheelchair.
Kenneth Mitchell's family's statement
The actor's family confirmed the shocking news and shared an elaborate orbit on social media. They took to Instagram and shared a series of pictures of the actor.The caption read, 'With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son, and dear friend."

'Ken was widely known as an actor in many films and television shows. He portrayed an Olympic hopeful, an apocalypse survivor, an astronaut, a superhero's dad, and four unique Star Trekkers,' the statement further read.
Recalling the challenges Mitchell faced while battling ALS for over five and a half years, his family wrote, 'In truest Ken fashion, he managed to rise above each one with grace and commitment to living a full and joyous life in each moment.'
'His life is a shining example of how full one can be when you live with love, compassion, humor, inclusion, and community,' his family concluded the statement.
Kenneth Mitchell on battling ALS
On August 11, 2022, the Captain Marvel actor opened up about his tough battle with ALS. He thanked his friends, family, fans, and strangers for all the love, care, and support.'Wellhellip It has been a long, full road traveled... Four years ago today, I was diagnosed. #ALS is absolutely horrifying,' he wrote. Despite the physical and emotional challenges, Mitchell always had an optimistic attitude.

'But during this journey, there has also been a plethora of heightened beauty. Mostly with the connections with friends, family, and even strangers,' the actor wrote, sharing that the love and support he has received from his close ones was an 'incredible gift.'
