The internet was shaking and quaking after Larsen and Toubro's (LnT) chairman, SN Subrahmanyan, issued a rather controversial statement of wanting employees to work all days of the week, including Sundays. This has sparked controversy about the Indian conglomerate's workplace culture and the priority they give to their employees' mental health.

Many, including Deepika Padukone, weighed in on Subrahmanyan's comment and called him out for encouraging a toxic workplace environment. Apart from being a spectacular actress, Deepika is also a mental health activist.

This news went viral on Reddit and Instagram after journalist Faye D'Souza posted about the same on the latter and left the comments open for people to share their views. The new mommy shared the same on her Instagram stories and called out the corporate chairman.

The Tamasha actress took to social media and reposted Faye D'Souza's post on her Instagram story and wrote, 'Shocking to see people in such senior positions make such statements. #MentalHealthMatters."

For the uninitiated, Deepika runs an NGO called The Live Love Laugh Foundation that aims to raise awareness and destigmatise mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, and more.

What did the LnT chairman, SN Subrahmanyan, say?

During an employee interaction, the chairman of Larsen and Toubro addressed a query about why the multi-billion conglomerate requires employees to work on Saturdays, a practice that is increasingly uncommon at workplaces.

In a video surfacing on Reddit, Subrahmanyan expressed his regret over not being able to make his employees work on Sundays and said, 'I regret I am not able to make you work on Sundays. If I can make you work on Sundays, I will be happier because I work on Sundays.'

The chairman's comments attracted all the more controversy after he remarked on employees' use of downtime at their home. He added, 'What do you do sitting at home? How long can you look at your wife? Come on, get to the office and start working.'

Not only Deepika Padukone but also ex-employees, current employees, and every other individual working in corporate culture have raised their eyebrows at Subrahmanyan's comment.
