BTS fans have been eagerly awaiting the group's full return since they disbanded temporarily in 2022 for mandatory military service. Now, it appears that the wait may be longer than initially expected.

During HYBE's third-quarter earnings call on November 5, the agency confirmed BTS' comeback in 2026, hinting at a full reunion as members conclude their service duties. While the group's return will surely generate excitement and revenue, HYBE noted that it aims to diversify its income sources and reduce reliance on BTS, signalling a strategic shift in the company's future plans.

HYBE's Update on BTS' Return in 2026

On the November 5 earnings call, HYBE's Chief Financial Officer Lee Kyung Joon shared insights on the company's plans regarding BTS' much-anticipated comeback. Addressing the timing, he stated, 'We are currently in discussions with the members about activities in 2026. While a full group comeback would generate considerable revenue, we expect it will not account for as high a share of our earnings as in the past, as our other artists and new ventures are also contributing to growth.'

This confirmation has sparked excitement among fans but also underscores HYBE's intent to balance its portfolio by promoting other artists. Although BTS' comeback is likely to bring substantial earnings, HYBE aims for a diverse and sustainable revenue model as BTS members complete their service duties.

BTS Members Progress Through Military Service

BTS members have steadily been completing their mandatory military service, with around 60 percent now fulfilled by RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook. J-Hope, the second member to enlist, completed his service in October, following Jin, who was the first to finish in June. Suga will be the last member to be discharged.

Each member is involved in various roles: RM is serving in a military band, where he even plays the saxophone V is part of South Korea's special defence team and Jimin and Jungkook are stationed in the 5th Infantry Division. South Korea mandates military service for all men under 30 due to ongoing tensions with North Korea.

ARMYs have rallied in support, understanding the members may need time to rest and recharge before fully reuniting as BTS. Originally expected by 2025, the group's comeback is now confirmed for 2026, aligning with HYBE's broader plans for sustainable growth. While this comeback is set to mark a new era for BTS, HYBE's evolving approach emphasises that BTS' success, while foundational, is now part of a larger company vision.
