India will be celebrating its 77th year of Indian Army Day in 2025. A historic day for the Indian army, Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa became the first Commander in Chief of free India in 1949. He took over General F R R Bucher, the last British chief. Since then, Indian Army Day is celebrated on January 15.

Bollywood has always been at the forefront when it comes to instilling the spirit of patriotism through movies that depict historic events like brutal wars, the India-Pakistan partition, unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country, and much more. These films often feature dialogues that are goosebumps-worthy and fill the viewers with pride.

1. Gadar: Ek Prem Katha - Hindustan Zindabad Tha, Zindabad Hai, Zindabad Rahega

One of the movies about the after-effects of the India-Pakistan partition, Gadar, went on to become a massive hit. Apart from Sunny Deol's terrific performance, what made the film brilliant was its hard-hitting dialogues.

One of the dialogues that continues to ring true even today is "Hamara Hindustan Zindabad Tha, Zindabad Hai, Zindabad Rahega!"

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha revolves around traumatic partition, which depicts a beautiful love story between Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and Sakina (Ameesha Patel). They both get married however, things take a drastic turn when Sakina's father (Amrish Puri) forces her to leave her family and stay in Pakistan.

A sequel to the 2001 release, titled Gadar 2, was released on August 11, 2023. It became one of the highest-grossing films of last year and received a positive response from the fans and moviegoers.

2. URI: The Surgical Strike - Farz aur farzi mein ek maatra ka antar hota hai

The Vicky Kaushal-Yami Gautam starrer was based on the unfortunate yet true events of the terrorist attacks on the Indian army camp in URI in 2016, where 16 soldiers were martyred while almost 30 were severely injured.

India gave a strong and unforgettable response to Pakistan's Jaish-e-Mohammed by doing a surgical strike, thus killing all the terrorists responsible for the attack.

One of the most powerful patriotic dialogues from URI was when Vicky says, "Farz aur farzi mein ek maatra ka antar hota hai...Agar main apne desh. Apne bhaiyon ke liy ab nahi lada. Toh main apne hi nazron mein...Frazi bankar reh jaunga."

3. Raazi: Watan Ke Aage Kuch Bhi Nahi, Khud Bhi Nahi...

Meghna Gukzar's Raazi was based on the true story of an unsung hero who sacrificed everything to save the country from its archrival's evil plan. Based on the true story of Sehmant, the film is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka's bestseller 'Calling Sehmat.'

Alia Bhatt plays the role of Sehmat, an Indian student who marries a Pakistani army major only to act as a secret agent and convey intelligence to India before the Indo-Pak 1971 war.

4. Chak De! India: Mujhe states ke naam na sunayi dete hain na dikhayi dete hain

Patriotism doesn't mean donning an army uniform. It means serving the nation in any form, including sports like hockey. Chak De! India is one of those sports dramas that hits the patriotic nerve just right.

When Shah Rukh Khan says, "Mujhe states ke naam na sunayi dete hain na dikhayi dete hain, sirf ek mulk ka naam sunai deta hai... India," it will definitely make you proud.

5. Holiday: Jab wahan border par log apni neend ki parwah kiye bina jagte hain

Akshay Kumar and patriotic movies always go hand-in-hand. One of his movies, Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, became a massive hit for many reasons. One of which was hitting the right nerve with the commoners, showcasing to what extent a soldier can go to protect their country.

The actor was spitting facts when he said, "Jab wahan border par log apni neend ki parwah kiye bina jagte hain, tab tumhein yahan sheher mein chain ki neend aati hain."
