Juhi Chawla Recalls Mother-In-Law Uninviting 1000 Guests After She Broke Down

Juhi Chawla, a leading Bollywood actress, recalled an emotional incident before the wedding with Jay Mehta and how her mother-in-law came to resuce.
For the uninitiated, the Yes Boss actress tied the knot with businessman Jay Mehta in 1995. While it was supposed to be an extravagant affair, the couple got married in the presence of close friends and family.
In a recent interview, Juhi Chawla recalled a rather emotional incident before the wedding when she broke down and confronted her mother-in-law.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the veteran actress opened up about how she was dealing with a lot of emotions right before her wedding. Juhi said that since her mother passed away a year ago, she couldn't be happy for her big day. She recalled that Jay's mother convinced her family to have an intimate wedding instead of an extravagant affair.

Sharing how a drastic number of invitees were eventually uninvited from the wedding, the Gulaab Gang actress said, 'I was shooting for some of the really big films of my career, and I was supposed to get married. My mother had just passed away a year ago. When the marriage date was coming close, I was thinking my mother was gone, whom I loved the most, and now my career will also go away."
"I didn't know how to be happy about it. So, I broke down one day and I told my mother-in-law, and she said, 'It's okay.' Can you imagine your mother-in-law doing it for you?" she added.

The actress further revealed, "Invitations had gone out to maybe 2000 people. She said, 'Abhi nahi horahi hai (it's not happening now)'. She convinced the family to not have the big wedding, and I got married, but it was at home with just the family and closest friends. So with just 80-90-100 people, the wedding was done.""Imagine your mother-in-law canceling those invitations that had gone out all over the world. I was a Punjabi eating chicken. Of course, after one or two years, that changed. Jay made me a vegetarian," she concluded.
Juhi Chawla and Jay Mehta tied the knot in 1995. The couple is blessed with two children: daughter Janhvi Mehta and son Arjun Mehta.
