Vinesh Phogat's historic win in the women's wrestling under 50 kg category at the Paris Olympics 2024 has garnered eyeballs from across the globe, creating yet another historic moment for India. One of the popular names who remarked on the same was Kangana Ranaut.

For the uninitiated, Phogat started with an incredible victory over the world defending champion, Yui Susaki of Japan, who had been undefeated since the Tokyo Olympics 2020. However, despite her remarkable efforts, the Indian wrestler was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 as she was found overweight.

Coming back to Kangana Ranaut, the actress's remark on Vinesh Phogat's win to the semi-finals has stirred yet another controversy after she shared a rather debatable social media story.

On Tuesday evening, the Indian athlete dominated a 5-0 win after brutally defeating Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez. This made her the first Indian woman to reach an Olympic wrestling final. This was until she was disqualified after she was found 100 grams over the weight limit.

The Tanu Weds Manu actress took to her Instagram stories and wrote, 'Fingers crossed for India's first Gold Medal. Vinesh Phogat, at one point, took part in protests where she raised the slogan 'Modi teri Kabr khudegi.' Yet she was given the opportunity to represent the nation and receive the best training, coaches, and facilities. This is the beauty of democracy and the mark of a great leader.'

Kangana, known for her vocal stance on various issues, congratulated Phogat in a manner that provoked controversy. While many found this an act of encouragement, others slammed her for bringing in politics in this.

In the past, Vinesh Phogat protested against the president of the wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, after she allegedly accused him of sexual harassment.

The ace wrestler had all eyes on her as she made her way to the finals, giving India hope to secure the first Olympic gold medal this year. However, on Wednesday morning, the jury announced she was disqualified from the tournament, citing weight issues.

According to the rules, wrestlers are required to weigh in twice, once on the morning of the preliminary rounds and again on the morning of the finals. Phogat successfully met the desired weight limit of 50 kg during the first checkup on Tuesday morning.

However, after coming up about three bouts and replenishing herself throughout the day, there seemed to be an increase in her weight. It is reported that she had to lose 2 kg overnight to meet the requirement for the final weigh-in.

Despite putting in all her efforts by constant skipping and sweating, she was found to be 100 grams overweight, leading to disqualification.
