Kartik Aaryan Loses Relatives In Ghatkopar Hoarding Collapse Incident, Attends Funeral

The city of dreams was hit with an unexpected storm that shook Mumbaikars with untimely rain and thunder. On May 15, the city was hit with a rather thunderous storm that brought about a tragic turn of events. A massive hoarding in Ghatkopar collapsed, thus causing the deaths of 16 people. Among them were relatives of actor Kartik Aaryan.

Among the deceased were the Chandu Champion actor's maternal uncle, Air Traffic Control (ATC) officer Manoj Chansoria, and his wife Anita Chansoria. The two were found buried under the monstrous hoarding.

For the uninitiated, Ghatkopar witnessed a horrifying event when a 120x120-foot commercial hoarding collapsed after being hit by a short spell of unseasonal rain and storm.

It all happened on May 15, when Mumbai was hit with an unexpected and untimely short spell of rain and storm. With the uproar of winds carrying almost everything with them, the storm also caused a shocking event of multiple casualties.

The Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 actor's maternal uncle, retired ATC Manoj Chansoria, and aunt, Anita Chansoria, were in their car when the massive commercial hoarding collapsed on the petrol pump, killing 16 people and trapping 90 others.

The couple, who resided in Jabalpur near Mariam Chowk, were found three days after the incident, trapped inside their car. The exact time and cause of their deaths are yet to be determined.

As per an Indian Express report, Kartik Aaryan was busy with his upcoming sports drama, Chandu Champion, when he heard the news. He took time out of his packed schedule to attend the funeral.


He joined his family members to mourn the deaths of his loved ones at the Sahar Cremation Ground.

It is believed that Manoj and Anita were visiting Mumbai to complete the visa formalities to visit their son, Yash, in the United States of America. He lost contact with his parents on Monday afternoon.

An Indian Express report stated, 'Their son had been trying to contact them since 5 p.m. on May 13. Unable to reach Manoj, and with Anita not answering her phone, he contacted his father's colleagues for help.'

A giant hoarding in Mumbai's Ghatkopar collapsed due to an unseasonal rain and storm, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 people. More than 90 Mumbaikars were trapped under the billboard.

The Mumbai police arrested Bhavesh Bhinde, the director of Ego Media Pvt. Ltd., the agency that owns the billboard that collapsed. It injured nearly 74 people.

The company had applied to Limca Books of Records to declare it as India's largest commercial hoarding.
