In a shocking turn of events, popular Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly has been accused of rape, following a complaint lodged by a woman from the Ernakulam district. The woman alleges that Pauly, along with five others, sexually assaulted her in Dubai last year under the pretext of offering her a chance to act in films.

Pauly has vehemently denied these allegations, calling them baseless and suggesting that a conspiracy may be at play. The case has gained significant attention, coming on the heels of the Hema Committee report, which exposed widespread sexual misconduct in the Malayalam film industry.

Allegations and FIR Against Nivin Pauly

The accusations against Nivin Pauly came to light after a First Information Report (FIR) was registered by the Oonukal police in Ernakulam district. The FIR includes charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including Section 376, which pertains to rape.

The complainant, who hails from Ernakulam, claimed that the incident occurred in November 2023, when she was allegedly lured to Dubai with promises of a role in films. The woman alleges that she was sexually assaulted by a group of six persons, including Pauly and a producer.

Nivin Pauly's Response: Denial and Claims of Conspiracy

Reacting swiftly to the allegations, Nivin Pauly took to Instagram, where he issued a statement denying any involvement in the incident. "I have come across a false news report accusing me of abusing a girl. Please know that this is entirely untrue. I'm determined to go to any extent to prove these allegations are baseless and will take all necessary steps to bring those responsible to light. Thank you for your concern. The rest will be handled legally," Pauly declared.

Later that evening, Pauly held a press conference where he reiterated his innocence and expressed disbelief over the accusations. He stated, 'I don't know who she is I have never seen her or spoken to her. This is baseless news, and I will go to any extent to prove the charges wrong.'

Pauly further revealed that he had met the producer named in the case in Dubai but denied any association with the other accused individuals. He also suggested that there might be a larger conspiracy behind the accusations, indicating that others could be involved in attempting to tarnish his reputation.

The Hema Committee Report and Its Aftermath

The accusations against Nivin Pauly come at a time when the Malayalam film industry is already under scrutiny for widespread sexual misconduct, as highlighted by the Hema Committee report. The report, published last month, exposed the deep-rooted issues of sexual harassment within the industry, leading to a series of allegations against several prominent figures. Notably, ruling CPI(M) MLA Mukesh, along with actors Jayasurya, Baburaj, and Siddique, have faced legal action in the wake of the report.

The report also led to the resignation of director Ranjith as the chairperson of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy, further emphasising the impact of the findings on the industry. In response to the growing number of complaints, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to handle cases related to sexual misconduct within the Malayalam film industry, including the case against Nivin Pauly.
