National Cinema Day 2023: Watch These Films at Just Rs 99

OCTOBER 12,2023

It has been a good year for films, with many movies ruling the box office and breaking multiple records. It is a much-needed relief to the film industry, which has been struggling to bring people into theaters since the COVID-19 pandemic. It is even more challenging in the age of OTT for theaters to be relevant. It is only through films that really speak to the audience that they are going to storm in huge numbers.

Last year, National Cinema Day was conceptualized by multiplexes to address the low footfalls.

What is National Cinema Day?

As the pandemic led to a temporary stop in production and screening of films, the Multiplex Association of India came up with the concept of a day to encourage people to return to theaters. This was a move to support theaters that incurred huge losses during this difficult time. Along with that, during the pandemic, people became comfortable with watching films on OTT, and this move was aimed at challenging that.

National Cinema Day was observed last year on September 23 and was a huge success, with people coming out in great numbers to watch any film at just a cost of Rs 99. While there is no specific day that it is celebrated, each year, the multiplex owners decide on a date consensually.

This year, National Cinema Day is observed on October 13.

Along with the decrease in the rates of the tickets, the multiplexes have made provisions to bring down the prices of food and beverages as well, just for one day. It is a big day for all cinema lovers who can go back to the screens on this day and celebrate the movies once again.
