SM Entertainment releases a statement following Taeil's exit from NCT

In a statement, SM Entertainment apologised for Taeil's alleged actions, stating, "We have recently learnt that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offence." As we were assessing the facts related to the matter, we recognised the severity of the situation and determined that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team (NCT). After discussing with Taeil, we have decided on his departure from the group. Taeil is currently cooperating fully with the police investigation. We will provide further statements as the investigation progresses. We deeply apologise for the concern and distress caused by our artist."

While Taeil has not yet commented on the matter, his NCT bandmates have reportedly unfollowed him on social media and deleted pictures of him from their timelines. This move has been met with a wave of strong reactions from fans, who are expressing their anger and disappointment by destroying merchandise and burning photocards. The news has also sparked curiosity about Taeil's supposed involvement in club activities, which has been the subject of much discussion on social media.

The police have clarified that the investigation does not involve sexual crimes involving minors of the same gender but have not provided further details at this time.

More About Taeil and NCT

NCT, or Neo Culture Technology, is a popular K-pop group that debuted in 2016 and has several sub-groups under its umbrella. Taeil was a part of NCT 127. The decision to remove Taeil from NCT follows a recent sex scandal that rocked the K-pop group earlier this year involving members Johnny and Haechan.

This incident, along with other recent reports of sexual misconduct in the K-pop industry, has shed light on the dark side of South Korea's hugely influential idol culture. The 2019 chatroom expose, which affected scores of celebrities and became known as the Burning Sun scandal, revealed incidents of rape and sex trafficking.
