Music mogul Simon Cowell, who manages British band One Direction, totally understands why they want to take a lengthy hiatus.Cowell said in an interview that the members of the band had worked non-stop for five years straight and they39re getting the break they deserved. "The way I look at it with One Direction is that we39ve had five fantastic years and they39re totally exhausted," Cowell told dailymail.co.uk39s Event magazine. He added that he didn39t know if the group would reform after the break. However, he39s sure they39d be "OK" even if they wouldn39t work together as a band again. "They need time out, but they will all be fine and if they want to come back, they will. If not, they39re all going to be OK," he said. Cowell went on to reveal to how close he was to the One Direction members. He said their relationship is more than just business. "They actually came out of their contract with me two years ago. They got offers for way more money from other record companies," he shared. "Everyone jumped in. They could have really turned the screw on me if they39d wanted to but they didn39t waver for a second, they stuck with me because we have a relationship." Cowell also discussed about Zayn Malik39s departure from the band. He said he knew the "unhappy" young star was about to leave his bandmates even before he made the announcement. "I knew Zayn was going before it happened. He was unhappy," he explained. "My concern was actually for the boys. Zayn wasn39t in a great place but it was his decision to leave, he wasn39t kicked out. He wanted to distance himself. My responsibility was to the boys because they had no warning," he added.
