Popular Filmmaker-Producer Pritish Nandy Passes Away Of Cardiac Arrest At 73

Popular Bollywood filmmaker and producer Pritish Nandy passed away at his Mumbai residence on Wednesday after he suffered a severe cardiac arrest. He was 73. For the uninitiated, Nandy has produced some well-known movies like Chameli, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Ankahee, and Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, among others.

On Wednesday, his friend and veteran actor Anupam Kher shared the devastating news on social media along with a heartfelt note. His post read, "Deeply, deeply saddened and shocked to know about the demise of one of my dearest and closest friends, #PritishNandy!"

Calling him "brave," Kher further mentioned how the late producer had always been by his side during his early struggling days in the city.

"Amazing poet, writer, filmmaker, and a brave and unique editor/journalist! He was my support system and a great source of strength in my initial days in Mumbai. We shared lots of things in common. He was also one of the most fearless people I had come across. Always larger than life," the Saransh actor continued.


He further added, "I learnt so many things from him. Of late we didn't meet much. But there was a time when we were inseparable! I will never forget when he surprised me by putting me on the cover of Filmfare and, more importantly, #TheIllustratedWeekly."

Anupam Kher concluded the post by saying, "He was the true definition ofyaaron ka yaar! I will miss you and our times together, my friend. Rest well. #Heartbroken."

Veteran journalist Dibang took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "He revamped the Illustrated Weekly, making it one of the most influential magazines of its time. Sometimes, he would take me to meet some of the most powerful politicians."


Who was Pritish Nandy?

Hailing from Bhagalpur, Bihar, Pritish was born on January 15, 1951. He was also a renowned journalist and a famous media personality. In the 1990s, he hosted a talk show on Doordarshan called The Pritish Nandy Show.

His career was not only limited to the entertainment industry. Nandy also served as a member of Rajya Sabha from 1998 to 2004, representing Shiv Sena.
