Ranbir Kapoor Birthday: 3 Songs That Reflect His Acting Talents

Ranbir Kapoor belongs to the category of actors who are capable of expressing a lot without saying much. His eyes have a certain melancholic appeal that is perfect for a melodramatic scene. When it comes to expressing complex emotions like anger and sadness, Ranbir knows just what to do in order to get into that headspace so that all of his body is reacting to things. Along with that, there is a childlike innocence to his face, which he uses to the best of his ability in scenes of vulnerability. He just knows how to pull on our heartstrings. His performance in songs is a genre in itself where he becomes part of its overall feel and sublimes into the overarching emotions that are expressed in the music. It is as if he is becoming an extra instrument, adding to the overall feeling of the song and uplifting the nature of the entire sequence.
In Rockstar (2011), as he is thrown out of the house and when he starts living in a nearby mosque, the song 'Kun Faya Kun' begins. There comes a moment in the song that is musically high, where Rehman's all-pervading voice surrounds everywhere. As the lyrics and the music point to a feeling of self-realization, so does Ranbir react in the most amusing way. Doing nothing other than just looking up in the sky while carrying a skeptical look on the face. After this, he gets up from the musical gathering and just continues looking up. Feeling the presence of the divine in his heart and soul, Ranbir transfers that exact emotion outside the screen to us. It is magical.
Here are three other songs where he elevates the moment with his intense acting:
1) Jogi Maahi: This wedding song, composed by Vishal-Shekhar, is more than just a moment of celebration. In the film, it becomes a moment of reconciliation for Ranbir's character, who has come to attend a marriage. The song has melancholic undertones, and it gives a feeling of wails coming from heartbreak. Ranbir Kapoor dances through never forgetting the psyche of his character, and hence, his expressions throughout the song underline this. He looks at the character of Minissha Lamba with a look of forgiveness that transcends into teardrops enveloping his eyes. He makes her believe that her husband is her true love, and the song plays as a release for this feeling. In Bachna Ae Haseeno, which came early on in his career in 2008, he showed signs of how he can express complex emotions with nuance, which he explored further in much more detail in the later films.
2) Channa Mereya: Working in a similar setup as the previous song, Ranbir's character attends the wedding of the girl he loves. Bringing on his almost maddening innocence to show the heartbreak he is experiencing, Ranbir takes the song somewhere else. The jealousy and longing for the person you love getting married in front of you are so apparent in his body language. He becomes the unrequited lover who is at once angry, happy, and unresolved in his feelings towards his beloved, played by Anushka Sharma. He brings so much authenticity to the song, which is already full of all kinds of emotions.

3) Agar Tum Saath Ho: Tamasha is a brilliant example of Ranbir Kapoor's hold on his craft as an actor. Throughout the film, he encompasses a very different sensibility, which borders on being hyperactive at times. Again portraying the role employing his childlike tendencies, it takes an even stronger turn in this song. With an equally mesmerizing performance from Deepika Padukone, it is a brilliant moment of love and heartbreak. Sitting on the table with his face drawn against Deepika, he weeps like a kid while also bringing a lot of maturity to it. It is difficult not to cry along with the two throughout this song, and once again, it is Ranbir's eyes holding your attention to the core.
