Rani Mukerji has confirmed a sequel to Mardaani 2. The script for Mardaani 3 has been locked, and the film will go on floors soon in 2024. Mardaani was released back in 2014 and received great reviews from all over who loved Rani's protrayal of a badass cop fighting criminals.
The second part of the franchise, Mardaani 2, came out in 2019. It did good business at the box office. It was particularly lauded for the strong subject matter that broke certain barriers. Apart from being applauded by critics, both films also did very well at the box office.
Earlier, Rani Mukerji had expressed her desire to work on the third part if the script was nice. She said, "I, as an actor, always believe that we don't want to do a film because it sounds good. We need to do a film when the script is good and when we want to make a film that makes a difference. With Mardaani 3, we can't make a film if the story does not have that substance."
Further, she added, "It has to be something that people relate to today the girls find it empowering. Only then we can do Mardaani 3. We can't do it just because it sounds exciting. So I am hoping that if they can crack a really good script, I would just like to get on with it."

Mardaani was directed by Pradeep Sarkar and followed senior inspector Shivani Shivaji Roy as a strong, dedicated officer of the Mumbai Police Force. It brought forth the issue of child trafficking as Shivani busted criminals behind a cartel. Mardaani 2 was directed by Gopi Puthran, in which Shivani was caught amidst a psychopath raging terror across Delhi.
It remains to be seen what the third part will be about. Other actors are being decided at the moment. The previous parts featured strong antagonists, and Mardaani 3 is also expected to have an intense negative character.
Rani Mukerji's last release this year was Mrs. Chatterjee vs. Norway, which was directed by Ashima Chibber. It opened up really well at the box office.
