Ranveer Singh Wasn`t Farhan Akhtar`s First Choice For Don 3, Guess Who It Was?

This year is officially the year of announcements and some exciting releases. While some introduce new movies, others carry on the legacy of some superhit blockbusters with a new twist. Speaking of which, Ranveer Singh took the internet by storm after he shared the news of Farhan Akhtar's Don 3.

For the uninitiated, the father-to-be will be stepping into Shah Rukh Khan's shoes as he replaces him in the third installment of the iconic action drama. The original Don featured Amitabh Bachchan in the titular role.

However, a recent report suggests Farhan Akhtar's original choice to play the new Don wasn't Ranveer Singh. He wanted Ranbir Kapoor to play the part.

While the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actor will return as the new Don, Farhan will make his comeback as a filmmaker after 14 long years. According to a Times Now report, Ranbir was Akhtar's first choice.

However, he denied the script for reasons best known to him. While these statements are supposedly rumors, neither of the three has confirmed the news.

In the remake of Amitabh Bachchan's Don, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and Boman Irani played key roles in parts one and two. Now, the third installment of the gangster drama will see Ranveer Singh headlining the film.

Fans and moviegoers speculate that Emraan Hashmi will play the antagonist in Don 3. This comes after the actor was spotted outside Farhan Akhtar's office in Mumbai.

Don 3 will also see Kiara Advani as the female lead. This is the first time the two actors will appear on the big screen.

Farhan Akhtar calls Ranveer Singh amazing

In an interview with BBC Asian Network, the filmmaker opened up about the public's criticism and mixed opinions on casting Ranveer as the new Don. It was on August 8, 2023, when Farhan dropped the teaser for Don 3, unveiling the Band Baaja Baarat actor as the lead.

Speaking about the mixed reactions, the filmmaker said, 'I'm just really looking forward to getting it going. I mean, Ranveer is amazing. He's great for the part. He's also, as you can imagine, really excited and really nervous. You know about the fact that you're filling some big shoes. But we went through the same emotional process whenShah Rukh Khandid it, and everyone was like, 'Oh my God, how can you replace Mr. Bachchan?' That whole thing happened then."

"And it really is about an actor coming in and owning the part and making it, really like giving it their style and their flair, and he has that. He has that in spades. So he's going to do that. Yeah. So he's going to do a great job. I think the responsibility is more mine now to make sure that the script of the film works out the way I imagined," Farhan Akhtar further added.

The filming for Don 3 will start in January 2025.
