The Indian national elections are around the corner, and it is time for India to unfold a new chapter in its history of politics. With people having one of the most powerful weapons in their hands (we mean the right to vote), the battle over who will be the best leader has already begun. Amidst the same, a video by Ranveer Singh criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been going viral on the internet.
A video of the Simmba actor backlashing the Indian prime minister over inflation and unemployment is yet another deepfake video that seems to be rather alarming. The clip was made with the artificial intelligence voiceover of Ranveer Singh.
Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Boom found that the voiceover was digitally altered using a synthetic voice clone. In the original video, the actor can be seen talking to ANI, where he is praising the prime minister.

The interview was conducted when the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actor was on a tour at Kashi along with Kriti Sanon. The two were there to grace a fashion show and promote the #VocalForLocal campaign hosted by the government.During his trip to the spiritual city, Ranveer sat down for a candid chat with ANI. He spoke about supporting local businesses, how India is progressing among the world economies, and also spoke highly of Narendra Modi.

However, a clip from his interview was picked up and doctored using artificial intelligence voiceover, in which he was seen criticizing the government.

In the 42-second short video, Ranveer Singh can be heard saying, "This is Modiji's purpose. He intended to celebrate our sad lives, our fear, our unemployment, and our inflation. Because our India is now heading towards a time of injustice at such a pace, we should never stop demanding our development and justice this is why we must think and vote."
The video later urges people to vote for Congress instead. Netizens think this video has been altered by someone who is anti-Modi.
This is not the first time a celebrity has become a victim of AI alterations. Earlier this week, another cloned video of Aamir Khan targeting the Prime Minister was shared by several Congress administrators.
What is Boom?
The artificial intelligence chatbot is an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur's creation. It helps with deepfake detection using an advanced tool named Itisaar. Using the same, experts could determine that Ranveer Singh's video was rather fake and cloned. The lip sync and the audio in the clip are not in sync. In addition, the voiceover seems to be rather inconstant. The test determined there was "clear audiospoof detected on the potentially doctored clip, while frames appear to be entirely real."
It also said the audio appears to be totally AI-cloned.

Ahead of the national elections, the father-to-be was seen heaping praise on India's prime minister and his vision to celebrate the country's rich culture and heritage."I am filled with joy seeing all of this. This was Modiji's vision to celebrate our rich cultural heritage, history, and legacy. India is progressing towards modernity at a remarkable pace, but we must never forget our roots and cultural heritage," Ranveer said.
