Singham Again, the latest release in Rohit Shetty's action-packed franchise has captured audience attention for both its star-studded cast and its storyline inspired by the Ramayana. While fans were excited to see real-life couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh together on screen, they were surprised to learn the two stars have no scenes together in the film. Director Rohit Shetty recently shared the reasoning behind this conscious choice, citing his concerns about possible audience backlash and respect for cultural sentiments.
Rohit Shetty's Thought Behind Deepveer's Absence in Singham Again
Marking the sixth on-screen collaboration for Deepika and Ranveer, following popular films like Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani, Padmavat, 83, and Cirkus, Singham Again brings both actors into the same cinematic universe but keeps them apart. Shetty explained that although he "would have loved to bring them together," he made a deliberate decision to avoid scenes between them.He stated, 'Even for Ranveer's character, there's no conversation that he has with Deepika's character. We did all this so that no one got hurt for even a second. Otherwise, we would've loved to bring them together and put a scene where they're having a banter.'
Singham Again is inspired by elements from the Ramayan, and Shetty acknowledged that working with such themes required caution. He said, 'We were worried throughout the making. Star cast and action were on one side. But what we were and conscious about was not going wrong because we're all emotionally connected with the Ramayan. Not hurting anyone's sentiment was the biggest task for us.' Shetty also mentioned that he was concerned about the social media backlash the film might face if the portrayal deviated from audience expectations.

He went on to say, 'But we were also aware that it's a unique concept and that's why we jumped right into it. Having said that, we were scared, thinking, What if we go wrong with the Ramayan? If they didn't like it, there would be a massive revolt and backlash, which could've harmed our film in a big way.'
Ranveer Singh's character in Singham Again reflects elements of Lord Hanuman. This portrayal further impacted the decision to avoid interaction scenes between him and Deepika. Shetty elaborated, 'I would have loved to do that... but, because we were dealing with Ranveer as Lord Hanuman's character... he was a reflection of Hanuman Ji's character, and it would have gone wrong for us.' This creative choice was a means of upholding cultural sensitivity while still creating an impactful storyline.
