OCTOBER 10,2023
October 10 is observed worldwide as Mental Health Day to create awareness about different disorders and normalize conversations around them. Alia Bhatt's elder sister, Shaheen Bhatt, has always taken a stance on the importance of mental health and taking care of your own being in order to live life to the fullest.
She has been part of many forums and discussions on mental health to spread awareness about it. In 2018, she released her debut book titled 'I've Never Been (Un)Happier' where she talked about her dark phase in life and how she tackled it.
Recently, she was part of a MTV Question Mark Workshop that was organized to bring forth the extreme pressures students have to go through. During the workshop, she shared her relationship with depression growing up. She mentioned one instance of why she felt the need to express her true feelings.
One day, she was trying to upload a picture of herself on social media. As she was skimming through her photos, she realized that she had only been looking for 'happy' photos when that was not how she felt from within. That's how she decided to speak openly about her feelings on her mental health.

Adding on further to that, she said, "The reason I felt this way is because no one ever chooses to talk about it, and your reflex to 'How are you feeling?' is always 'Oh, I am good.' We are constantly wearing this mask and pretending to be someone else."
Moreover, during the workshop, Shaheen Bhatt shared the role of parents in supporting their child who is going through a tough time. She discussed how students' mental health is dependent on the kind of support and care they get from their parents. She shared instances from her own life when her parents were supportive of her throughout. Her parents, Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan, never pressured her into getting more marks to prove her worth.
"I felt really lucky for the fact that I have such supportive parents who have always told me to just do my best and that any outcome that comes is okay with them not only this, they have never pressured me to be a top-ranking student." She said this while pressing on the importance of the right knowledge about mental health.
