Sharmin Segal, the actress who plays the role of Alamzeb in Bhansali's latest series, Heeramandi, appeared for an interview with her cast for the Kapil Sharma Show. Apart from playing the pivotal role in Heeramandi, Sharmin is also the niece of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Her casting for Alamzeb's role and recent discussions about her portrayal raised the question of nepotism and its influence on the film industry.
Sharmin Segal said she prepared for one year and gave sixteen auditions for Heeramandi
Addressing the criticism the actress has been receiving online for a while, she shared that she didn't land the role like everyone expected. Sharmin said that she had to prepare for a year and go through sixteen auditions to win the role of Alamzeb. During the show, Kapil Sharma asked her, 'Kya unhone aapka sach me audition liya tha ya aapne unko mamu banaya?' (Did they truly audition you, or did you just leverage your uncle-niece relationship?)'To this, Sharmin replied, 'Ek saal ke liye prepare kiya aur 16 baar auditions diye' (I prepared for a year and gave 16 auditions for the role).' Since the actress had a breakthrough role in Heeramandi, she's come under the radar for both criticism and admiration. As many netizens had very harsh opinions about her portrayal as Alamzeb, the actress had to disable comments on her Instagram account.

In a recent interview, her co-star Aditi Rao Hydari, who plays the role of Bibbojaan, shared her opinion on the online bashing faced by Sharmin Segal. The actress said, 'It's horrible to pick on anybody. I know some people like something and some people don't. There is a way to say it. It can get very mean. It has gotten very mean, and I think it's not fair and shouldn't happen like that. I don't know what else to say, but I do feel bad. 'I also feel people do what they think is important to them. If some people want to be mean, that is their prerogative. We have to find a way around it otherwise, it will be really difficult. Whoever is facing it, I would just say, 'Look at the positive,'' Aditi concluded.
