The internet has been shaking and quaking for many reasons, one of them being Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala's surprising engagement. The couple, who were rumored to be dating for quite some time, finally exchanged the rings on Thursday.

The Telugu actor's father and superstar Nagarjuna took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and announced their engagement, thus officially welcoming the actress to their family. The rumors of them dating have been doing the rounds on the internet for quite some time.

For the uninitiated, Naga Chaitanya was previously married to Samantha Ruth Prabhu, a leading Indian actress who has made her mark in Tamil and Telugu films. However, the two parted ways, making their way to an ugly controversy.

Amid the news of the lovebirds in tinseltown, here's a throwback to when the Premam actor called his relationship with Sobhita a mere 'speculation.'

When Naga Chaitanya opened up about his personal life

The Telugu actor has been rather tight-lipped about his personal life. Whether it was the divorce with his Ye Maya Chesave co-star or him dating the Made in Heaven actress, he has always kept his relationships away from the limelight.

During the promotion of his 2023 release, Custody, the newly engaged broke silence on the rumors about him dating Sobhita and how media has made a big deal about the Chaitanya-Samantha split-up.

Calling his rumored relationship with Sobhita Dhulipala a 'speculation'', Naga Chaitanya expressed his disappointment at how his ladylove was dragged into the controversy.


Chaitanya said, "Whatever happened in my personal life with my marriage, that's very unfortunate. But I have immense respect for that phase of my life. It is due to the media reportage and how they've portrayed everything by speculating and spreading rumors that the whole respect is lost and diminished in the public eye. This is what hurt me a lot. It was almost a year since the court has given us divorce on mutual consent."

Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu tied the knot in 2017. However, things soon started to fall apart, and they called it quits within four years of their marriage.

When asked about the ups and downs in his personal life, the Custody actor added, 'Just for headlines, they're linking my name to some third person and speculating more. This has really hurt me a lot. For no reason or fault at all of the third party, they're being dragged into this whole issue. Whatever happened has happened they should let go. I just hope that they will stop and move on with my clarification now.'

While this happened a year ago, Naga Chaitanya and Sobhita Dhulipala are officially engaged and have put all the rumors to rest.
