6 Indian Indie Artists From The LGBTQ Community That Are Redefining Non-Labeled Music

LGBTQIA is a community that nurtures, encourages, and supports one another when the world stands against you. And so does music. Music doesn't see your sexuality or gender, it only sees how you embrace the tunes. Music accepts you for who you are, what you are. These 6 revolutionary indie musicians are changing the non-labeled music, one note at a time. Let's make you meet independent musicians who represent and belong from th LGBTQ community and are making their mark in the indie industry.

1. Raveena (bisexual)

The Indian origin singer dropped an independent song 'Temptation' which spoke about being attracted to both the sexes, which never came in from the artist. This song not only spoke about her coming out through music but also introduced us to her new artistic side with her 2019 album Lucid.

2. Sushant Divgikar aka Rani Ko-He-Nur (queer)

Performing under the drag queen moniker Rani Ko-He-Nur, Sushant has been a ver prominent name in the community. Also leading a pop-rok band called Top Storey, Divgikar released his first independent single last December. 'Diamonds' is all about mesmerizing highs lead by a powerful voice like Divgikar's.

3. GrapeGuitarBox (non binary, gay)

Bnagalore-based queer artist Teenasai Balamu identifies as non-binary and gay with they/them pronouns. They released their first EP album in an intermittent fashion. Songs like "Wait for you", "Run", "Meant To Be Yours" are some of their songs that show inclusivity in tone and feelings. What started as a simple series of YouTube covers has now built a reputation for adding interesting twist to independent music. Currently based in London, we cannot wait to see what more they have to offer.

4. Cartel Madras (pansexual, queer)

Indo-Canadian sibling duo Eboshi and Contra are dominating the hip-hop world and how! Breaking down the genderstereotypes and misconceptions from their early on compositions, their songs like "Kuthu Pattu" opens up interpretation with regards to one's identity. One of their latest independent singles "Dream Girl Concept" which was fantastically lead by Eboshi is an ode to a girl building up to be one of the coolest, most savage brags in queer music.

5. Yatin Srivastava (bisexual)

A multi-talented musician, Srivastava is a composer, producer, filmmaker, photographer, guitarist-vocalist. Going beyond his project album Chaos//Despiar in 2018, the artist collaborated with some strong and talented musicians in the indie space for his EP Quarantine Vol. 1. His music emotes expressive modern metals and subtle touches of electronic music and rock. Active since 2011, Srivastava keeps on experimenting with his tunes and music to give us somethign fresh every time he releases a new independent song.

6. Krishna K. (transman)

Chennai-bred singer-songwriter Krishna K. is among those indie singer-songwriters who hs a fine balance in the non-labeled music as well as the Tamil film industry. Often hyped and supported by fellow indie musicians like Raghav Meattle, Kevin Fernando, and more - Krishna's original pieces are topping all the indie charts. If you enjoy simple yet high-spirited music, Krishna's music is something you must add to your playlist.
