5 Films That are All-Time Diwali Blockbusters

Diwali is the special occasion for Bollywood films to strike the theaters and engage audiences during the festive season for maximum impact. Over the years, many films have had a release on Diwali, which solidified their release, turning them into blockbusters at the box office.
This year, Tiger 3 is the lone warrior, which is all set to hit the screen on November 12.
Everyone enjoys spending quality time with the family, and Diwali proves to be the perfect time for this to happen. Right from the 80s and 90s, films that were released on Diwali were always special, with Muqaddar Ka Sikandar in 1978 recording large numbers at the box office when it was released.
Similarly, here are 5 films that have done phenomenally well when released during the Diwali season:
1) Krrish 3 (2013)
Krrish 3 was the most-awaited film of 2013, as the previous parts in the Krrish franchise had caught the attention of viewers, especially kids. Having enhanced its filmmaking style, Krrish 3 offered high-octane stunts from India`s very own superhero, whom everyone loved.
It was released during Diwali and proved to be the highest grossing film of Hrithik Roshan`s career till then, with a total gross of 244 crore.

2) Happy New Year (2014)
Named for the new year but released during Diwali, this Farah Khan directorial was a banger at the box office. With an ensemble cast of Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, and Sonu Sood, Happy New Year was an action-comedy that received love from fans.
It did business worth over 205 crore, crossing the 40 crore mark right on the first day.

3) Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015)
This film marked the reunion of the blockbuster Jodi of Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya, who had previously given hits in the 90s. The film was much-awaited and fared well at the box office due to its family-oriented themes.
It had a revenue of over 210 crore at the box office.
4) Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016)
Despite getting into multiple controversies owing to protests by unruly elements over the inclusion of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil turned out to be a hit at the box office. Everyone loved the performances of Fawad Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Anushka Sharma, with praise coming for Karan Johar`s direction and storytelling.
The film did a business of 112 crore.
5) Shivaay (2016)
Along with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Ajay Devgn`s Shivaay turned out to be a blockbuster. It was Ajay Devgn`s dream project, and he donned the hat of a director for the film, making it earn over 100 crore at the box office.
