The wait is finally over! The trailer of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Haiwaan’ has been released, promising an intense and dark cat-and-mouse thriller. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film brings the two actors together on screen after 18 years, but this reunion is far from their usual chemistry. This time, they find themselves on opposite sides of a dangerous battle.
What immediately grabs attention is Akshay Kumar’s never-seen-before avatar. The actor steps into the shoes of a ruthless, psychologically disturbed antagonist, marking a striking departure from the heroic roles audiences have largely associated him with. His character appears supremely cold, unpredictable and deeply sinister, making his presence in the trailer genuinely unsettling. The film sees Akshay embrace a darker side, portraying a villain whose actions set the entire story into motion. This is the fist time all the Akki fans will see him like this.
On the other hand, Saif Ali Khan plays a visually impaired man, adding another stunning layer to the story. His character is not portrayed as helpless because, the trailer hints at a man who uses his heightened awareness, intelligence and skills to take on an extremely dangerous adversary. Reports describe Saif’s character as a blind martial artist who becomes central to the fight against Akshay’s character.
The trailer builds its tension around an intense hero-versus-villain confrontation, with Akshay seemingly staying several steps ahead while Saif attempts to understand and outsmart him. The result is a suspenseful battle of instincts, strategy and survival. The dark atmosphere, violent encounters and psychological mind games give ‘Haiwaan’ a distinctly serious tone.
The film is also a Hindi adaptation of Priyadarshan’s acclaimed 2016 Malayalam thriller ‘Oppam’, though the Hindi version has its own changes and additions.
With Akshay Kumar exploring a menacing negative role and Saif Ali Khan taking on the unusual challenge of portraying a visually impaired protagonist, ‘Haiwaan’ certainly brings an unexpected combination to the big screen.
