Whenever you listen to the radio, the presenters kick in nostalgia by taking you back to the 1990s. One of the most iconic presenters the Indian radio has ever seen was Ameen Sayani. He was the popular voice behind the show Binaca Geetmala. On Tuesday, Ameen passed away after suffering a heart attack.
Ameen Sayani died in Mumbai on Tuesday after he suffered a severe heart attack. His son Rajil Sayani confirmed the sad news of his father`s death to Indian Express. The iconic radio presenter hosted the popular show Binaca Geetmala.
His funeral will take place on Thursday in Mumbai, as the family is awaiting some close relatives to reach the city.
“The doctors at the hospital attended him but couldn’t save him, and he was declared dead,” he said to the portal.
Fans and listeners mourn his death and express their condolences on social media. One user shared his photo and wrote how Ameen was the great voice of radio back in the 1950s.
Ameen was born on December 21, 1932, in Mumbai. He was known for his show Binaca Geetmala, which was broadcast since 1952, mainly over Radio Ceylon and later on Vividh Bharati (AIR). The show aired for over 42 years.
Ameen Sayani has produced, complied, and spoken for over 54,000 radio programs and over 19,000 spots or jingles since 1951. He was also seen in many Bollywood movies in a special appearance.
Sayani appeared in movies like Bhoot Bungla, Teen Devian, Boxer, and Qatl, where he played the role of a radio announcer.

He was rushed to HN Reliance Hospital, where he breathed his last.“The doctors at the hospital attended him but couldn’t save him, and he was declared dead,” he said to the portal.
