Throwback to when Asha Bhosle expressed her last wish
When you think of magicians who redefined Bollywood music, Asha Bhosle tops the list. The legendary singer passed away on April 12 after suffering from a cardiac arrest and multiple organ failure. She breathed her last in Mumbai`s Breach Candy Hospital.
The late singer received an all-state funeral held on April 12 at Dadar`s Shivaji Park. Several celebrities, politicians, and entrepreneurs came under one roof to honour her legacy.
Amid the devastating news, an old interview of hers has been surfacing where Ashaji revealed her last wish – which, just like her life, was also about music.
Asha Bhosle`s last wish
In a podcast with actress Amrita Rao and RJ Anmol, the singer opened up about how she would like to spend her last moments. She said she`d like to go away, doing what she loved the most – singing.
Ashaji said, "Meri khud ki iccha aisi hai ki gaate gaate hi main chali jau. Yehi meri iccha hai. Abhi mujhe seekhne ka kuch nahi hai. Gaana meri life hai. Bachpan se gaya hai. 3 saal se classical, Baba ka sikhaya. Puri life usmein chali gayi hai. (My only wish is to die singing.) That`s my last wish. I don`t have anything left to learn. Singing is my life. I have been doing that since the age of 3 with my father. I spent my entire life doing that)."

She further added, "Film line mein 82 years ho gaye hain. Abhi jaake yeh iccha hai ki gaate gaate mera dum nikle. Mujhe sabse zyada khushi hogi ki main gaate gaate hi jaun (It`s been 82 years in the film industry). Now, all I want is to die singing. I will be happiest if I keep singing till my last breath."
Asha Bhosle was one of those few singers who redefined music with her sensational and experimental style of singing. In a generation of love songs, she brought fresh, peppy, expression-filled songs that continue to be timeless.
Asha Bhosle`s incredible career
Over the span of eight decades, the legendary singer recorded over 11,000 songs across multiple languages, ranging from classical music to ghazals to cabret and pop.
She began her journey at a young age and gained prominence in the 1950s. She was honoured as the most recorded artist in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Asha Bhosle won two National Awards for Best Playback Singer and was also honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan.
Rest in peace, legend. The world will miss you.
