The much-awaited sequel of The Royals begins production but comes with rather sad news for fans. Bhumi Pednekar, who played the female lead in the show, will not be a part of the second season.
The news follows the decision of the makers to ditch the romance angle and make The Royals a family drama, thus shifting the focus to the royal chaos from Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter`s sizzling chemistry.
Mid-day reported on Sunday that the makers have now decided to pivot the romance to family drama in the sequel, bidding adieu to Bhumi`s character.

A source close to the development shared an interesting take and said, “When you do a romance, it is the story that leads. When the show came out, what resonated [with the audience] was the family – Ishaan, Sakshi, Zeenat, and the world of The Royals – which feels different."
"We left season one with an unresolved romance. There was no decision to carry it forward. There was no fight with Bhumi. The makers are simply letting the story lead forward organically in the second season,” the report quoted the source saying.
The report further cited that Pednekar is now looking for an intense, more layered role in a genre that challenges her to bring out her best.
She is all set to return as a troubled cop in Amazon Prime Video`s Dalal 2 and will co-star alongside Imran Khan in his comeback film on Netflix.
The insider added, “Bhumi is also set to feature opposite Imran Khan in what insiders describe as his long-awaited comeback film for Netflix. The project, currently under wraps, has been in development for some time. She is also expected to begin working on Daldal 2, a project that aligns more closely with the intense space she has increasingly gravitated towards in recent years."
As for the second season of The Royals, the cast continues to include Ishaan Khatter, Zeenat Aman, Nora Fatehi, and Sakshi Tanwar in prominent roles.
