As Budget 2024 is announced, here`s a throwback to when Suniel Shetty complained about tomato prices
On Monday, February 1, the finance ministry of India announced the Union Budget 2024, thus laying down some new ground rules for how the citizens of the country will see the new financial year. Headlined by Nirmala Sitharaman, the budget reflected every industry and sector contributing to India`s economic growth.
Prior to the budget for 2024 being announced, many Indian celebrities raised concerns over quite a few things that affected them financially. One of them was Suniel Shetty. He complained about inflation, the hike in tomato prices, and how he was coping with the same.
In an interview last year, the actor spoke up about how people think that since he is a superstar, inflation doesn`t affect him. Comparing the tomoato prices on delivery apps with those of the markets, Suniel Shetty even opened up about how he has started using fewer tomatoes.
Suniel said, “We believe in eating fresh produce, so my wife Mana only buys vegetables for a day or two. The price of tomatoes has skyrocketed, and it has affected us as well.”
He further added, "If you look at the prices on these apps, you will be shocked; they’re much cheaper than getting tomatoes from markets. I order from apps because they sell fresh produce. They even tell you where the vegetables were grown and how farmers benefit."

Anna`s fans were shocked to know how a well-settled actor like him is complaining about the price hike and has started using fewer tomatoes than usual.
“I have always been one for bargaining because I am also a hotelier. But inflation and rising prices affect the quality of food. Even I have no choice but to compromise on taste now,” the actor concluded.
The Budget 2024 was announced live on the Press Information Bureau’s YouTube channel and DD News at 11:00 AM. Usually, the budget is announced on the last working day of February.
However, this year, the ministry chose to break the news on the very first day of the month.
