CID actor Dinesh Phadnis who played Freddie
In a major bolt to the film and television industry, Dinesh Phadnis, who was popularly known for playing the character of Freddie in the crime thriller show CID, passed away in the wee hours of Monday night. His friend and actor, Dayanand Shetty, confirmed the news.
He played the role of Frederick in the longest-running TV show and won hearts with his comical performance. He started his acting career with CID after appearing for the first time in the TV show in 1998. He continued to play the character until 2018 in the show, reprising his role and making an impact with his lovable appeal. He became a household name for his one-liners and comic timing.
He has also made an appearance on the SAB TV Show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for a guest episode.
Apart from his stint in television acting, he has acted in films like Sarfarosh, Mela, and Officer. In Sarfarosh and Officer, he played the role of a police inspector. Recently, he also acted in the Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30, where he had a small role.

Earlier, it was reported that he suffered from a heart attack and that his condition was critical. However, Dayanand Shetty revealed that it was not a heart attack but liver damage.

Daya added, "Firstly, it wasn`t a heart attack; it was liver damage, because of which he was immediately rushed to Tunga Hospital, Malad. For the last two days, he has been very critical."
His condition was not improving, and until Sunday, he was still critical. He passed away last night at around 12 a.m. Daya confirmed the news.
Speaking about the reason for his liver damage, Daya revealed, "Dinesh was getting treated for some other ailment, but the medication affected his liver adversely. That`s why it is always recommended to take medicines very carefully. You never know when the medicine that one is taking to treat something can cause another major ailment. One should be very careful regarding allopathic medicines."
His last rites will take place today at the Daulat Nagar Crematorium. The entire star cast of CID is present at his residence in Mumbai.

Dinesh is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 57 years old.
