Coolie Teaser: Rajnikanth’s Thalaivar 171 Gets a New Name With a Thrilling Teaser
Filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj shared some big news about Rajinikanth’s film Thalaivar 171. He shared a 3-minute-long teaser for the film, which now has the name `Coolie`, on Monday. The trailer also reminds us of Rajinikanth’s previous films where he played the character of a coolie, for instance, Uzhaipaali, Mannan, and Mullum Malarum.
The teaser opens in a warehouse on a port where a group of workers are guarding tonnes of contraband, mainly gold. One of the workers gets a phone call saying that someone has breached security and that he should kill the intruder if he comes into the warehouse.
The workers quickly arm themselves with various weapons and wait for the intruder. We see the lead worker walk out of the warehouse to attack the intruder, but he gets beaten up himself. Rajinikanth then enters and engages in a thrilling action sequence, beating all the workers black and blue.
At the end of the action scene, the name of the film, ‘Coolie’, is revealed. In the end, the worker’s phone rings with a call from the previous person, who asks whether he was able to finish off the intruder. Rajinikanth just laughs this off and asks, “Finish once and for all?” This is an iconic dialogue from the actor’s 1982 film ‘Ranga’. The teaser then cuts to the announcement that filming for the movie will start soon.
The makers have used a monochrome palette of black and highlighted only the golds. This makes the gold contraband inside the warehouse look even more impressive. You can hear Rajinikanth’s song ‘Siva Sambo’ throughout the teaser. This song is from his 1979 film with Kamal Haasan, titled Ninaithale Inikkum.
Lokesh Kanagaraj, the director of Coolie, shared the teaser on his X handle and wrote, “We love you Thalaiva @rajinikanth #Coolie.”

Coolie will be the first collaboration between Rajinikanth and Lokesh. Sivakarthikeyan can also be a part of the film; however, the makers have not made any formal announcement about the same.
The movie is produced by Sun Pictures, with whom Rajinikanth worked previously on Jailer. The music and background score are provided by composer Anirudh Ravichander. The brothers Anbumani and Arivumani, who are also known as Anbariv, are directing the stunt sequences. Coolie is set to release next year, in 2025.
