Dhanush criticizes AI-altered climax of Raanjhanaa re-release
With many Bollywood classics re-releasing in cinemas, the conflict over Raanjhanaa`s re-release has escalated after Dhanush came forward and shared his two cents about the AI-altered ending of the film.
After director Aanand L. Rai, it is Dhanush who slammed the decision of re-releasing his film with an AI-altered ending, saying this has stripped the film of its soul.
The actor also revealed that despite his objection to using the AI version of Climax, “the concerned parties” still went ahead with it.
Dhanush is disturbed with Raanjhanaa`s AI-version re-release
Captioning his post "For the love of cinema," the South superstar wrote, “The re-release of ‘Raanjhanaa’ with an AI-altered climax has completely disturbed me. This alternate ending has stripped the film of its very soul, and the concerned parties went ahead with it despite my clear objection.”

“This is not the film I committed to 12 years ago. The use of AI to alter films or content is a deeply concerning precedent for both art and artists. It threatens the integrity of storytelling and the legacy of cinema. I sincerely hope that stricter regulations are established to prevent such practices in the future,” he further added.

For the uninitiated, the original ending sees Dhanush`s character Kundan being shot, and Sonam Kapoor, who plays the female lead, rushes to the hospital to be with him in his dying moments.
However, in the AI-ending of Raanjhanaa, Dhanush doesn`t die as shown in the 2013 film. Instead, Kundan is seen opening his eyes and sitting up in bed. He then leaves Bindiya (Swara Bhasker) and Murari (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) in happy tears.
Aanand L. Rai feels betrayed with Raanjhanaa`s AI ending
Amid the rising tensions, the filmmaker has strongly expressed his disapproval and disappointment through his social media post. He referred to the change as "betrayal" and termed the recent developments as "deeply upsetting."
"The past three weeks have been surreal and deeply upsetting. To see `Raanjhanaa,` a film born out of care, conflict, collaboration, and creative risk, being altered, repackaged, and re-released without my knowledge or consent has been nothing short of devastating," Rai said.
He added, "What makes it even more disheartening is the casual manner in which it`s been done. And yet, amid all of this, the outpouring of support and solidarity from the industry, audiences, and the wider creative community has reminded me what `Raanjhanaa` originally stood for: connection, courage, and truth. I am immensely grateful for that.”
Raanjhanaa saw a theatrical release in 2013. It featured Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor, and Abhay Deol in leading roles.
