Drishyam Goes Global: Mohanlal Starrer Tamil Thriller to Get a Hollywood Remake
The Malayalam crime mystery thriller franchise, Drishyam, is set to be remade in Hollywood. Panorama Studios produced the Hindi versions of Drishyam 1 and 2 for Viacom18 Motion Pictures and are now collaborating with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films for the English remake.
Kumar Mangal Pathak, the Chairman and Managing Director of Panorama, announced the remake of `Drishyam`.
He stated, “Drishyam’s clever narrative has a universal appeal, and we are keen to celebrate this story with audiences worldwide. After Korea and Hollywood, our mission is to produce ‘Drishyam’ in 10 countries in the next three to five years”.
Panorama Studios has acquired the rights to produce an international remake of the successful franchise of both the installment of the crime-thriller from Ashirwad Cinemas, the original producers.
The director of Drishyam 2, Abhishek Pathak, expressed, “We have received immense love from our Indian audiences, who have made the Drishyam franchise a massive success. The strength of Drishyam lies in its story, and we want it to be enjoyed by audiences globally.”

Jack Nguyen, the founder of JOAT Films, talked about Drishyam after the announcement. He said, “The story has clearly resonated with audiences worldwide, as evidenced by the numerous remakes it has spawned. Gulfstream, Panorama and JOAT are excited to have the opportunity to present our take on this cleverly crafted thriller to audiences globally.”
Drishyam has also been remade in other languages, including Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil, with the legendary Kamal Haasan starring in the latter.
Additionally, a Chinese remake titled `Sheep Without a Shepherd` was released in 2019, starring Xiao Yang, Tan Zhuo, and Joan Chen.
