Ghilli Re-Release: Vijay and Trisha Starrer Crosses 15 Crores Mark, Sets New Records
‘Ghilli’, the 2004 film starring Thalapathy Vijay and Trisha Krishnan, recently completed 20 years of release. On this occasion, Ghilli was released in multiple theatres nationally as well as internationally. Since its release five days ago, the film has seen a massive response and high occupancy in theatres. According to one report, the film crossed the 15 crore mark just three days after its release.
The film received maximum occupancy and response in Tamil Nadu, and it has crossed the 10 crore mark in the state. With the additional re-release box office collection, the film’s total collection has crossed the 70 crore mark worldwide. With the huge response, Ghilli is expected to cross the 100 crore mark soon.

Yesterday, the Ghilli movie broke another record as it became the fourth-only film to gross 10 crores domestically in a re-release. Other films that made this list were Titanic, Avatar, and Sholay 3D. Additionally, Ghilli has also become the first highest-grossing Indian re-release in international theatres.
When Ghilli was released back in 2004, the film earned more than 30 crores in Tamil Nadu and became one of the highest-grossing films of the time. It seems like the film still has a hold on the Tamil audience, as no re-release before this has received such a huge response in the state. Despite there being not much promotion for the re-release, Ghilli is seeing a great response from the audience worldwide as well.

Ghilli stars Thalapathy Vijay, Trisha Krishnan, and Prakash Raj in the lead roles. Ashish Vidyarthi, Nagendra Prasad, Janaki Ganesh, and many others also appear in the film in supporting roles. The film is directed by Dharani and is a remake of a Telugu film called ‘Okkadu’. The Telugu film was released in 2003 and starred Mahesh Babu, Bhumika Chawla, and Prakash Raj in lead roles. Interestingly, Prakash Raj played the antagonist’s role in both the Tamil and Telugu versions. Composer Vidyasagar provided the music for Ghilli.
Another surprising fact of the film is about Janaki, who played Vijay’s mother in the film. Netizens recently realised that the actress is surprisingly three months younger than Vijay, but she still played his mother’s role.
