Christopher Nolan wins Golden Globe for Oppenheimer
The 81st Golden Globe Awards 2024 were announced last night, and Christopher Nolan won big at the prestigious ceremony. The Golden Globe Awards felicitate the best in the field of cinema who broke new ground with their storytelling. It is a special win for Nolan, as it is the first time he has won the Golden Globe in his career spanning more than two decades. He had been nominated six times before but had never won.
Among the nominees were other groundbreaking films like Maestro by Bradley Cooper, Greta Gerwig`s Barbie, and Martin Scorsese`s Killers of the Flower Moon. Also nominated were Yorgos Lanthimos for Poor Things and Celine Song for Past Lives.
Apart from him, Robert Downey Jr. and Cilian Murphy also bagged the Golden Globe Award 2024 for Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor, respectively. In his acceptance speech, Nolan recalled the time when he took an award on behalf of Heath Ledger. "The only time I’ve ever been on this stage before was accepting one of these on behalf of our dear friend, Heath Ledger, and that was complicated and challenging for me."

He further said how he had gotten stuck while speaking at that time. "In the middle of speaking, I got all stuck, and Robert Downey Jr. caught my eye and gave me a look of love and support—the same look he’s giving me now."
He thanked his entire crew and said, "“I thought it would be simpler to accept myself. But, as a director, I realize I can only accept this on behalf of people. As directors, we bring people together, and we try to get them to give their best."
Nolan also called Cillian Murphy, as his partner has been a criminal for 20 years. Murphy has starred in almost all the Nolan films. This was the first time he played a protagonist, and his performance as Roert Oppenheimer was well-appreciated by everyone for the way he embodied the character.
Oppenheimer was released back in July 2023 and created a sensation among fans. It was among the most-awaited films of the year, and it didn`t fail to live up to its expectations.
