Gully Boy: The Asli Hip Hop film helmed by a woman about a space largely dominated by men

The makers of the upcoming Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starrer ‘Gully Boy’ announced the trailer launch of the film scheduled on January 9, 2019, with Ranveer spitting verses as an aspirational rapper, therefore conveying the essence of Asli Hip-Hop.
Both Ranveer and Alia keep up to their reputation of exploring performances beyond the norm and one cannot wait to see their magic unfold before us, once again. Through the rushes of the video, we get to see prominent faces from the underground hip-hop scene of Mumbai mark their presence in the film, namely Emiway, Dee MC, Minta and Kaam Bhari. The star cast also includes Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Verma, Sidhant Chaturvedi and Vijay Raaz in pivotal roles.
What makes the release of ‘Gully Boy’, much anticipated is that it has taken the vision of a woman to bring forth the story of Mumbai’s under-ground, hip-hop scene, a space largely dominated by men. Tip off your hats to Zoya Akhtar for foraying into a territory where few filmmakers have dared to. ‘Gully Boy’ is a story of hope and aspirations in the face of adversity and tells us the story of Divine and Naezy, two successful hip-hop artistes in today’s time who made it big, despite their shortcomings. If the trailer announcement is anything to go by, expect a revolution coming your way, this February.
As Naezy’s song suggests, ‘Aane De’.
