Vijay Sethupathi says he will refrain from playing negative characters, here`s why
If there`s one actor who is widely accepted in the Indian film industry, be it in South Cinema or Bollywood, it has to be Vijay Sethupathi. A massive star originally from down South, he paved his way in Bollywood with Shah Rukh Khan`s Jawan, where he played the lead antagonist.
However, as Vijay Sethupathi celebrates his 46th birthday, the actor reveals he will stay away from playing negative characters anymore. The actor was recently seen in Merry Christmas, a thriller drama that also starred Katrina Kaif and Radhika Apte in the lead roles.
While the movie performed averagely well at the box office, Sethupathi`s acting was highly lauded by fans and moviegoers. Till now, Merry Christmas has managed to collect an estimated 11.38 crores in India.
Responding to the same, Vijay Sethupathi denied it and revealed the real reason. He said, “They try to put emotional pressure on me, which I don’t want to face. I am not feeling bad, but still, there are restrictions when I play a villain. They are controlling me so much, not to take over the protagonist, and some things go into the editing also.”
However, his decision to not play the villain anymore has not quite worked in his favor. Vijay often finds himself trapped and tempted to play such monstrous characters and finds himself to at least consider reading the script once.
Sethupathi further added, "So slowly it is happening, and I am confused and worried if I should do it or not. So I have decided, let me not do villains anymore, at least for a few years. If I say no to playing a villain, they say you should at least listen to the script. So there are a lot of problems there."
However, one thing that was common in every fan and movie critic`s review was Vijay and Katrina`s acting. The two were exceptionally brilliant in the film. In an interview, the Jawan actor opened up about working with Katrina.
He said, “Katrina is someone I deeply admire. She’s a methodical actor who plans each scene. Even if she does not agree with your perspective, she listens attentively.”
The actor will next be seen in Pushpa 2: The Rule. The Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna starrer will release on August 15 in cinemas near you.
Radio City wishes Vijay Sethupathi a very happy birthday.
