John Abraham Recalls His First Salary, Emphasizes On Using Money Responsibly
One of the most versatile yet most private actors, John Abraham is a name who revolutionized movies of several genres, especially action and geopolitical movies. While he has always stayed away from the controversial limelight, the actor`s interviews are worth watching and learning a thing or two from him.
For the uninitiated, the Dhoom actor made his glorious Bollywood debut in 2003 with Jism. He started off his career as a supermodel and went on to become a successful actor who has delivered some fabulous films.
With his recent action drama titled Vedaa coming up on August 15, John Abraham got surprisingly candid in his recent podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia, where he spoke about his career, love for motorbikes and sports, ups and downs in his film career, and everything in between.
Reflecting on his early days, John recalled getting his first job after completing his MBA degree and earning Rs. 6,500 as a media planner. He also reminisced about Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, and Karan Johar being the judges of the modeling competition he won.
Taking a walk down memory lane, Abraham said, “After MBA, my salary was Rs 6,500. I started from there. I was a media planner. Then I got offered to take part in the Gladrags competition, and my judges were Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Karan Johar, and Karan Kapoor. I won that competition, and I got Rs 40,000. It’s like a full circle. That was a huge amount of money for me. My take-home salary at that time was Rs 11,500.”
“My expenses were very low. My lunch would cost Rs 6, and I would have 2 chapatis and dal fry. This was in 1999. I would skip dinner as I would be working late in the office. My expenses included petrol for my bike; I didn’t have a mobile; I had a train pass; and the little food I had, that’s all. I used to save my money and invest in equity-based mutual funds. That’s where my career started,” he further added.

On the work front, John Abraham was last seen in Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer Pathaan. He will next be seen in Vedaa, an action drama that also features Sharvari Wagh and Tamannaah Bhatia in key roles.
The movie is all set to release on August 15 in cinemas near you.
