Karan Johar Announces Dhadak 2 Starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi
Karan Johar is all set to return with a new film titled Dhadak 2. The movie stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles and is directed by debutante Shazia Iqbal. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film also features actor Saad Bilgrami and is slated for a theatrical release on November 22, 2024. This announcement comes as a surprise, as Johar had previously denied rumours of a Dhadak sequel over a year ago.
The motion poster hints at a love story facing societal barriers. In a voiceover, Siddhant`s character Neelesh says, "Jo sapna tum dekh rahi ho Vidhi usme mere liye koi jagah nahi hai (The dream that you have Vidhi, there is no place for me in it)." Triptii, portraying Vidhi, replies, "Toh phir yeh bhi bata do Neelesh ki in feelings ka kya karun (Then let me know, Neelesh, what should I do with my feelings)?"

Sharing the news on social media, Karan Johar wrote in Hindi: "Yeh kahani hai thodi alag kyuki ek tha raja, ek thi raani, jaat alag thi, khatam kahani (This story is a little different because there was a king, there was a queen, their castes were different, end of story). Presenting Dhadak 2 starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri. Directed by Shazia Iqbal. #Dhadak2 in cinemas 22nd November 2024."
The cryptic message and the caste references in the poster lead many to believe that the film explores themes of class difference and societal disapproval of inter-caste relationships. This aligns with reports suggesting the movie might be a remake of Mari Selvaraj`s 2018 Tamil drama Pariyerum Perumal, which centred around a love story between a Dalit boy and an upper-caste girl.

It`s important to note that Dhadak 2 is not a direct sequel to the 2018 film Dhadak. The original movie, directed by Shashank Khaitan, was a remake of the Marathi film Sairat and starred Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor. It also explored themes of caste and societal pressure, but with a different storyline.
With Karan Johar at the helm and a fresh cast, Dhadak 2 promises an intense love story set against the backdrop of social prejudice. The film`s release in November 2024 is highly anticipated, and it will be interesting to see how Shazia Iqbal portrays this complex narrative on the silver screen.
