Kiran Rao Vs Sandeep Reddy Vanga: This Time Its Personal
Last year, movie buffs and audiences divided when it came to movie reviews, drawing a fine line between storytelling and taking the film a little too seriously. A classic example of the same is Ranbir Kapoor`s Animal. While some called it misogynistic, others were highly impressed by the film.
This is not the first time any movie may have ignited the misogynistic debate. Before Animal, Sandeep Reddy Vanga`s Kabir Singh was equally criticized and faced backlash for normalizing an abusive relationship.
Speaking of misogyny, there`s a huge uprising happening between two directors, Kiran Rao and Sandeep Reddy Vanga. While the latter`s recent release was highly criticized, he pointed out that sexism has been a common practice in movie-making businesses since the 1990s. He even cited examples from Aamir Khan`s movie Dil.
Kiran has now responded to Vanga`s remarks about her ex-husband, which have become yet another controversy.
In a recent interview, Kiran was seen promoting her upcoming film, Lapata Ladies, which marks her directorial debut. In the same way, she clarified that she never particularly named Vanga`s films while speaking about the misogynistic cultures in Hindi films. Instead, she addressed the subject in general.
She further praised her ex-husband, Aamir, for being one of the few actors who accepted and apologized for his problematic work in the past.
It all started when reports claimed Kiran Rao referred to Kabir Singh and Bahubali 1 while talking about stalking in the films. This may have offended Sandeep, and he hit back, urging her to look at Aamir Khan`s early films before commenting on his work.
Reacting to Sandeep Reddy Vanga`s remark, Rao said, "I haven`t commented on Mr. Sandeep Reddy Vanga`s films because I haven`t seen them. I have spoken about misogyny and the representation of women on screen on various platforms at various times. But I have never taken the name of any film. It`s not really about a specific film."

"It`s really about the issues, and I will continue to speak on these issues. Why Mr. Vanga Reddy has assumed that I am talking about his film, you will have to ask him. I haven`t seen his films, nor have I taken the name of any of his films."
She reiterated that she was speaking about misogyny in general. "I have spoken in the past and will continue to do so," she further added.
"There`s an episode in Satyameva Jayate Season 3 where he talks about this. He is one of the people who has stepped up and taken responsibility, both as a creator and as a person speaking to a mass audience. That`s really laudable," she continued.
"If Mr. Reddy has something to say to Aamir, he should tell him man to man. I am not responsible for Aamir`s work or for Aamir Khan. So, I wish Mr. Reddy would address his questions directly to Mr. Khan," Kiran concluded.
