Mai On Netflix: Sakshi Tanwar Goes To The Extreme To Kill Her Daughter`s Murderer

One of the most natural yet method actor, Sakshi Tanwar has collaborated with Netflix for an intriguing mystery-thriller web series, Mai. A story that revolves around a mother`s avenge to her daughter`s murder. Netflix dropped the trailer of Mai on Thursday and Tanwar turns from a doting housewife to a revengeful mother to find who killed her daughter and why.
The story of Mai revolves around the Chaudhary brothers who lived a simple life, living in adjancent houses. "A middle-class wife, mother and volunteer nurse witnesses a first-hand tragedy that forever changes her world. In an instant, she finds herself sucked into a rabbit hole of violence, crime and power,” the official synopsis released by Netflix stated.
Directed by Anshai Lal and Atul Mongia, the latter credited his real-life events to be the inspiration for this story. “Just like my mother, despite the many ups and downs in life, ‘Mai’ too retains her sanctity by shunning the world outside of her family. But what if her existence were to cross paths with an extremely dire and appalling circumstance,” Mongia said in a statement.
In the Netflix web series, the Dangal-fame actress plays Sheel, a doting mother and an ordinary housewife. When she realizes her daughter Supriya, played by the Grahan actor Wamiqa Gabbi was killed in front of her eyes - she imbibes the avatar of a woman who is on a hunt for her daughter`s murderer.
The story somewhat resembles to the one of Sridevi-starrer `Mom`. However, the nitty-gritties of the two can be looked from a different perspective. Sakshi Tanwar, known to play subtle roles, will be seen in a never-imagined character.
Produced by Karnesh Ssharma of Clean Slate Filmz, Mai marks his second collaboration with Netflix after the thriller-series `Bulbul`. "`Mai` is a gripping yet emotional story of a strong mother’s journey,` he said. “The viewers are going to witness a very layered narrative that is full of twists and turns, showcasing how far a mother will go for love and in search of the truth."
Seema Pahwa, Vivek Mushran, Anant Vidhaat, Raima Sen, Ankur Ratan, Prashant Narayan and Vaibhav Raj Gupta will also be seen in the series, playing a vital role. Mai will be streaming on Netflix on 15th April. Fasten your seatbelts because this story will take you for a thriller-filled ride.
