Naseeruddin Shah Issues An Apology To Pakistanis
After the whole language controversy blew up the internet by trolling the 7 Khoon Maaf actor, Shah took to Facebook and issued an apology to the Sindhi-speaking community of Pakistan.
He wrote, “OK OK I apologize to the entire Sindhi-speaking population of Pakistan who I seem to have deeply offended by my mistaken opinion. I admit I was ill-informed but is it necessary to crucify me for that? ‘Let him who is free from…’ as Jesus said. I am quite enjoying being called ‘ignorant’ and ‘pretend intellectual’ after many years of being mistaken for an intelligent person. It is quite a change!”
Where It All Started
Let us begin from the beginning. It all started during the promotions of his recent show Taj: Divided By Blood Season 2. Naseeruddin spoke about various languages spoken in Pakistan. He claimed that Sindhi, once a dominating language in the country, was no longer prominent.
He said, “They have Balochi, they have Bari, they have Siraiki and they have Pushto. Sindhi is, of course, no longer spoken in Pakistan.”
Bollywood fans in Pakistan did not take this well. Several people and Pakistani celebrities corrected the veteran actor. He was even called ‘ignorant’ by many.
Pakistani actor Mansha Pasha tweeted, "As a proud Sindhi, who speaks the language within her household, I beg to differ." Another actor Yasir Nawaz also shared a video of himself lip-synching to a popular Sindhi song.
