Taapsee Pannu-Amitabh Bachchan`s Pink completes 8 years
Bollywood can either create some nonsensical movies or thought-provoking content that will leave you wondering where we are headed as a society. One of such movies that falls into the latter category is Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury`s Pink.
The 2016 release was headlined by Taapsee Pannu, Andrea Tariang, Kirti Kulhari, and Amitabh Bachchan in crucial roles. Angel Bedi was also seen as one of the leading antagonists.
For the uninitiated, the movie revolved around a high-profile molestation case where an infamous retired lawyer helps three women fight for justice. As Pink completes 8 years today, here`s a throwback to when Shoojit Sircar opened up about who the film`s exact target audience was.
Sircar, who was both the producer and creative director for the movie, played a pivotal role in the film`s development. Pink starred Amitabh Bachchan as Deepak, a reitred lawyer, while Taapsee Pannu played the role of a young woman named Minal, whose life gets entangled in a legal battle.

Shoojit Sircar has been rather clear about its impact, intent, and target audience. Reflecting on its purpose, the filmmaker spoke about how the movie is meant more for boys and men.
In an old interview, he said, “Pink is not a women’s empowerment film; it is a simple narrative of three women. This film is not for the women, who go through such experiences every single day; it’s for the men and the boys.”
In another interview, he expressed his views about the film receiving a National Award and said, "I am delighted that the people and the jury have enjoyed it; I am proud and honored, but this film is to reflect, not to celebrate."

"If you see this film and come out, it will leave you with a strong impression. It still bothers me to watch my own film, so no celebrations. We wish to reflect. And we are going to carry this notion forward. We will take Pink wherever feasible so that it can reach the widest audience," Shoojit further added.
On the work front, Shoojit Sircar is all set to continue his tradition of thought-provoking cinema with his next project, which will be headlined by Abhishek Bachchan.
Yet to be titled, the film will see a theatrical release on November 15, 2024.
