Ponniyin Selvan Director Mani Ratnam Asks Hindi Cinema To Stop Using The Term Bollywood, Here`s Why

Do you think that Hindi Cinema should not use the term Bollywood to identify itself? Or should it blend in cohesivley with other native industries as a whole? Guru director Mani Ratnam has quite a strong yet on-point opinion on the same.
Mani Ratnam, who is at present busy working for the release of his magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan 2, was recently present at the second edition of the CII Dakshin Media and Entertainment Summit in Chennai. And while speaking at a panel that discussed the influence of South Indian films, the filmmaker indicated during the event that we should stop marking industries as Bollywood or Kollywood.

“Hindi cinema can stop calling themselves Bollywood,” Says Mani Ratnam
The filmmaker said, “If Hindi cinema can stop calling themselves Bollywood, then people will stop identifying Indian cinema as Bollywood”. Also, the National Award-winning director Vetrimaaran, who has good relations with Anurag Kashyap, shared similar thoughts about the term and said, “I’m not a fan of the ‘woods. Like Bollywood, Kollywood. We need to see it as Indian cinema on the whole.”
Kantara actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty also attended the panel. He conveyed the significance of marketing local as global.

Talking about his magnum opus, Mani Ratnam has cast Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, and Sobhita Dhulipala for the second installment of Ponniyin Selvan, whose first part was a super hit. He is all set to add to the success story of Tamil cinema just like last year with the first installment of the film.
Ponniyin Selvan will see a theatrical release across the country on April 28.
