Pooja Bhatt Shares Shocking Details about Divorce with Manish Makhija

Pooja Bhatt has always stayed in the limelight in the showbiz, ever since the 90s, and presented herself as an actress who broke new ground. She recently came on the OTT version of Bigg Boss, where she created quite a stir and spoke her mind on various things. She also became vulnerable about her battles with alcoholism.
Recently, she appeared at a book launch event in Bandra on Wednesday. The book Unchain My Heart by Sharika Esther Sharma was presented by Pooja Bhatt along with politician Priyanka Chaturvedi.
In the book launch, Pooja Bhatt opened up about her marriage to Manish Makhija. She said, "I found myself in a marriage that was crumbling. It wasn’t crumbling because of any painful situation; it was rather boring; neither of us cheated or were interested in it.
She further added, "As a woman, I realized that I lost myself in the process while ticking the box that society has set for me. It took me some time to realize that I was trapped in a marriage that wasn’t working for me. I lost my femininity. I forgot who I was. He was a perfectly wonderful man, but there was a loneliness in my soul."

Pooja and Manish were married for over 11 years. They divorced in 2014.
She also spoke openly about her battle with alcohol. She said, "I used alcohol as a bandage; I was trapped, and I was chained. First into being a good wife and then getting my gratification with a bottle. I asked myself what the difference is between a bad relationship and a bottle. I was using both to numb the pain. So, I learned to deal with myself, my anguish, and my emptiness, and from that, something magical emerged. I kicked the bottle, and it has been seven years since I have been sober."
She also spoke about Alia Bhatt and the reason for her success by saying, "My sister Alia is so successful because she knows what to share. What to put out there and what not to But I have learned that it’s only when you are authentic and when you are speaking from the heart that it gets communicated."
Pooja Bhatt further reflected back on her career by adding, "When I look back at my life, I am enjoying what they call the fourth season of fame. There are four seasons in an artist’s life. First they say he or she has potential, then they say she has arrived, then they say she is over, and then they say she is back. So, I came back with Bombay Begums."
Bombay Begums is a Netflix show featuring stories of women. It was released in 2021 and marked the comeback of Pooja to the showbiz.
