Heartbreaking: Rani Mukerji’s mother Krishna Mukerji passes away
A heart breaking news has come out from the world of Bollywood. In an unfortunate set of events. Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji’s mother Krishna Mukerji has left for her heavenly abode at the age of 75.
Yash Raj Films (YRF) shared the news in an official statement on their social media handle. The team said that the family needs privacy at this difficult time. YRF said, “With heavy hearts, we share that Rani Mukerji`s mother, Mrs Krishna Mukerji, 75, passed away this afternoon. The family is deeply grateful for your love, prayers, and support and respectfully requests privacy during this time of immense grief.”

For all those who are unaware of this but, Krishna Mukerji was a former playback singer associated with Bengali cinema. She was also often seen accompanying her daughter Rani Mukerji at public events. Her profile as a former playback singer is also ed in Rani Mukerji’s official YRF profile. Because of her association with music, she always encouraged her daughter, Rani Mukerji, to pursue a career in the arts and acting.
It was on various occasion that we saw Rani’s mother accompanying her which showed how close the actress always have been with her mother. From the beginning of her career, whenever Rani attended an award function, film screening or public event, Krishna Mukerji was always seen with her. Even after the death of her husband, Ram Mukerji, Krishna stayed with her daughter Rani and played the role of the family. The news of Krishna’s death came shortly after Rani was honoured at the 62nd Maharashtra State Film Awards. She received the Raj Kapoor Special Contribution Award for her contribution to cinema. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis presented the honour to the actor in the presence of Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar.

Rani Mukerji’s work front
Rani Mukerji recently headlined the third instalment of the celebrated action-thriller franchise. Reprising her iconic role as the fierce cop Shivani Shivaji Roy, she leads a dark, intense rescue mission involving the mysterious disappearance of dozens of young girls. The film debuted theatrically early in 2026 and subsequently made its digital premiere on Netflix.
